The Downers Legacy Seed Library Orientation

The Downers Legacy Seed Library will be holding a Seed Saving Orientation on Saturday, April 2, from 9am -11am at Lincoln Center (935 Maple Avenue).

Vicki Nowicki is the instructor.  REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED. Call 630-963-1300 to register. The class registration code is 420011-01

The orientation will also include a Plant Sale for cool weather vegetables.

If you have questions, please email us at youneedaseed.org@gmail.com.

The Downers Legacy Seed Library is located at the Downers Grove Museum (831 Maple Avenue).  Members of the seed library can check out free heirloom vegetable, flower & herb seeds to grow for their own harvest.  By leaving a few crop plants to go to seed, members collect their own seed for future use and return seed to replenish the library for future gardeners. You become a member by attending a seed library orientation.

The Whole Ball of Wax

Marge Trocki, the beekeeper at Lyman Woods, caused quite a buzz during our March meeting when she enlightened us about the Plight of the Honey Bees and how we can help the bee population thrive.

Marge described the basics of beekeeping, and noted some plants that bees use for nectar or pollen (many of our favorites, including coneflower, aster, and Culver's root).
